"Snap" Words(Known as Sight Words)
Snap Word journal will start to come every Monday. As new words are added, initial the pages that your child will read to you. On a week that no new words are added, please review.
Starting in January-Word Family Books will come home on Wednesdays. The students are to practice the word family each week. A new word family will be added each week until the end of the year.
Classroom Theme Books
(These books on display will change at the beginning of each new month. And the students will be able to check one book out each night and bring it home in his/her daily folder.)
Please remember to continue to have your child read to you for at least 15 minutes a night. The boys and girls will begin to check out a book each night from our classroom library. As long as the book is returned the next day, they may continue to check out a new book each night. These books are not leveled, and most likely will be a little challenging to read on their own-so have fun reading together.
Reader's Workshop Bag(Black bag with Green Stripe around the edges)
The books that you will find in this bag coincide with our Lucy Calkins Reading Program. In the beginning of the year the bags will gradually come home every night and we will start out with non-fiction books. The students will learn to read books through the illustrations. The idea of picture walking will help them become a stronger reader. Remembering important details from the story as well as making predications will help improve comprehension. At the beginning of January, our reading materials will evolve into leveled readers and eventually the students will be bringing home books geared to his/her specific reading level.
